A gang of pseudo-Nazi bikers scared the whole of New Zealand
"Mongols" - a gang of biker pseudo-Nazis, which keeps all New Zealand at bay
Who would have thought that the world biker capital, it turns out, is not the United States, but New Zealand. It is in this country the largest number of bikers per capita. With a population of four and a half million people, more than four thousand men dress in leather and ride motorcycles. And almost all of them are members of organized crime groups.
Local photographer Jono Rotman (Jono Rotman) got into the credibility of the leaders of the most notorious gang and created a powerful photo project.
New Zealand’s largest gang is Mighty Mongrel Mob, or simply “mutts”. About five percent of all prisoners in the country are active figures of this company. Actually, crime here is so closely intertwined with the culture of bikers that the words "biker" and "criminal" in the minds of ordinary New Zealanders are almost synonymous.
The gang of Mighty Mongrel Mob was born in the 60s, when a wave of popularity of the American biker movement reached these parts. Marginals, who did not shun minor crimes, began to buy used motorcycles and drive them all together. Gradually, the crimes became more serious, and the company - more numerous.
Initially, only whites were accepted into the gang. The Mongols were very proud of their European origins and stressed this by the active use of Nazi symbols. They still make tattoos or swastika stripes, put on helmets with the emblem of the SS. Now these costumes look funny because the gang is entirely made up of Maori and people from the Polynesian islands.
On the territory of New Zealand, there are about 30 offices of Mongrel Mob. They even managed to seize a small part of the coast of Australia, displacing local crime. The pledge of such progress lies in the fact that Maori bikers feel themselves members of the military fraternity, which has a rigid hierarchy, as if in a primitive tribe.
For a living, the “mutts” are earned in the old ways of the world - looting, the manufacture and sale of drugs, and the arms trade. True, the bulk of income is boring financial fraud.Mongrel Mob is famous for its masterful money laundering schemes.
The worst enemies of Mongrel Mob are the guys from Black Power. This gang appeared in the 80s on the basis of enthusiasm for ideas of social equality. Black Power figures have become some kind of African American New Zealand spill. And, imitating the Americans, they are waging an implacable struggle with the local pseudo-Nazis. Although in fact they are more drug trafficking.
