Replaced by Ferrari 365 GTB Daytona , Charles ordered four new 308 GTBs at once.
The project implementation was attended by a small engineering firm, Giuliano Michelotto (not to be confused with Giovanni Michelotti, the famous designer of Ferrari). Initially, Giuliano himself was “just” a successful Ferrari dealer in Padua, but over time his office became one of the most respected partners of Maranello in terms of preparing cars for client racing programs. The Ferrari 308 GTB Group 4 was the first joint project of partners. By the way, Michelotto already had experience in creating rally cars. In Padua, the famous Lancia Stratos, the legendary model who won the world championship three times, was preparing to launch.

Like, customers do not like the plastic body panels and that's it! So in Maranello soon returned to the metal. But the racing versions of the 308 GTB were built around the fiberglass body.

A lot of attention was paid to the motor. Even in its basic form, the Tipo F106 V8 was a very impressive design at that time. The power unit was crowned with a new 5-speed manual gearbox with close gear ratios and a self-locking differential from the ZF adjusted for different tracks. In the same season, the crew of Antonio Toniana / Massimo De Antoni became the rally champions in Italy for 308 GTB. Well, a year later, “berlinetta” Andrue , this time in the famous Pioneer red and blue livery, finished second on the “Tour de Cours 1982”, by the way, at the World Cup stage. Moreover, after the first five dopes, the 308th was in the lead, but in the end lost to Jean Ranyotti and Renault 5 Turbo. In any case, this podium remains the best result of Ferrari in the classic ral whether in the history of the brand.
