How to identify gold?
Gold began to forge almost immediately after it began to mine. It was in the price at all times, and of course, found willing to earn extra money on the sale of metals similar to it. So, people began to wonder how to identify gold in front of them or not. Surely, many people remember from the movies, especially about pirates, how gold coins check for a tooth - will it bend? But are there any other ways to learn how to determine the authenticity of gold?
In order to figure out how to determine gold, you need to know how to fake it. And this happens by adding various metals to the alloy. The percentage of metal impurity is determined by the sample of gold. The higher the sample value, the better the quality. For example, 958 sample is considered one of the best, but in 350 sample a large percentage of impurities, so the gold of this sample is inexpensive.
When buying gold, first of all, pay attention to the sample. It should be stamped into the product as a stamp. If there is no sample, then you have jewelry. If the stamp is set indistinct, then most likely it is also a fake.In order to be completely confident in the quality of the product of gold, it can be attributed to a professional goldsmith. He will tell you exactly which sample you purchased and whether the product is worth the money invested in it, and can also tell you how to determine real gold.
But there are cheaper and easier ways to determine gold at home.
Attach a magnet to the product. If it is attracted to the magnet, it means that there is either a very low sample in front of you, or a fake with a high content of iron impurities. But this method has a significant drawback. Some imitations can be made of copper or aluminum, and these metals do not attract the magnet.
Lightly rub the product with a coarse cloth such as denim. After that, drop iodine on the product. If the thing changes color to light, then you have a fake. If the color turns slightly blue, then it is real gold. This is one of the most accurate ways.
A vinegar test is also considered reliable. Immerse the product in a container with vinegar for a minute. If after that it becomes dark, then it is a fake. If not, gold is real.
If you put a gold product at night inside a small piece of soft black bread, then the next morning the fake will change its color.
Try holding the product over a small flame, for example, over a candle - a small black patina will appear on the gold, which is easily washed off. If you have a fake in your hands, then the top coat of paint can come off.
On real gold, it's easy to make a scratch with a little pressure. However, here you need to be careful, since you can’t get rid of the scratch, try to do it on the less visible part of the product.
7. Friction about the palm
If you rub the product on the palm of your hand, then a slightly dark trace (usually with a green tint) will remain from a fake or a product with a low breakdown on the skin.
