In Mexico, found the largest underwater cave in the world

Cavers discovered that two separate (as previously thought) underwater caves located on the Yucatan Peninsula are connected between themselves, and together their length is almost 350 km! It does Sak-Actun cave system is the longest in the world.

The Gran Acuifero Maya (GAM) project is dedicated to research and preservation groundwater peninsula Yucatan. According to the director of the project Guillermo de Anda, divers explored underwater passages for long months two caves - Sak-Actun and Dos Ojos - and finally managed to find a place where they connect.

This is a terrific find, the scientist believes, - after all, it not only derives the Sak-Actun cave system ("white cave") is in first place in the world by length (347 km), but also provides new opportunities for research Mayan culture.
