Sea creatures. Dangerous sea animals - photo
Sea animals are the least studied part of the natural world. These creatures strike the imagination with their strength, endurance, ability to adapt to the environment. Sometimes they are incredibly cunning and cunning, and sometimes amazingly funny and touching. On the creatures that live under the strata of the seas and oceans, will be discussed in this article.
The sea animal of the seal family, ringed or common seal, lives almost everywhere in the Arctic. It can be found even in the center of the Arctic Ocean, where on the surface there is nothing at all but snow and ice. Nerpa feeds on fish and plankton; therefore, it finds food for itself even over considerable sea depths. In order to breathe, this creature, like other arctic seals, arranges air holes in the ice. If the hole freezes, the seal begins to gnaw its teeth, which is why a conical cavity appears on the surface of the ice, which with time can reach a three-meter height. In spring, the female expands the hole of one of the holes, gets out through this hole to the ice and in deep snow brings her baby - white coat covered with white fur. A month later, the baby is covered with more rigid gray hair and leaves its shelter for independent living in water.
The seals also live in Antarctic waters, and their diet is quite unusual. For example, a crabeater seal feeds on planktonic crustaceans. A formidable sea leopard hunts penguins.
This creature is known for not even chewing on its prey, but absorbing it entirely. There were cases when a sperm whale was swallowed by a person who fell into the water. This huge creature, thanks to its wide mouthful, can generally eat anything, from a huge kraken (albeit in parts) to a handbag. But the main food of the sperm whale is pack squids. At autopsy, up to fourteen thousand squid jaws can be found in his stomach, on which the digestive juice does not act.
Sperm whale also eats mollusks, crabs and other inhabitants of the seabed. During the hunt, he is able to dive to a depth of one to two kilometers. It happens that at the same time it violates the integrity of the telegraph and telephone cables, glaring into the communications stretched along the bottom with its powerful jaws.
Marine animals have an exceptional ability to survive. Surprisingly, the property of sea snakes to assimilate oxygen dissolved in water by the mucous membrane of the oral cavity. They can not drown and choke. These graceful animals can easily move in the water column, but they are completely helpless on land. True, the sea snake creeps to the shore extremely rarely - to lay eggs. The size of this creation is usually small. Their normal length is no more than a meter.
It is known that the sea snake is very poisonous. The strong toxicity of her teeth is due to the fact that fish are less sensitive to poison than warm-blooded. However, for a man this creation is practically safe. The fact is that the snake uses its poison for self-defense extremely rarely. If you take it in hand, without causing pain, it will not show aggression. Otherwise, the person is waiting for a lightning sting, which can be fatal.
There are quite rare marine animals.Among them is the marine iguana. These individuals live only on the distant Galapagos Islands. These large lizards reach one hundred and forty centimeters in length. Very little is known about their lifestyle. Despite its impressive size and formidable appearance, these creatures are herbivores. Their young can eat sea animals, however, having matured, immediately sit down on a strict vegetarian diet.
Sea iguanas swim well, dive well and are able to stay underwater for a long time. However, they only go down to the sea for food. In this case, the lizards sail from the coast for no more than a few hundred meters. When danger arises, they never seek salvation in the water. Marine iguanas move beautifully over land. Their strong limbs with strong claws are perfectly adapted for climbing on uneven surfaces. But these animals are never far from the coast. Lizards live in family groups in a strictly defined area. Any stranger is expelled immediately. Female iguanas annually lay one or two eggs in the coastal sand. Sandy areas on the Galapagos Islands covered with hardened lava are rare, so each of them is jealously guarded by watchful sea animals.
The biggest sea animal is the blue whale. Its length in some cases reaches thirty-three meters. It weighs a huge mammal of about 150 tons. Scientists distinguish between three subspecies of blue whales: dwarf, northern and southern. They differ slightly from each other.
Every day, these marine animals need a huge amount of calories. An adult blue whale absorbs one ton of plankton per day. The basis of its diet is krill. This is a small shrimp like cancer. Sailing through the aggregations of krill, the whale swallows it along with tons of water. The animal then filters the prey with a powerful tongue. It plays the role of a piston that pushes water through a whalelike mustache. The blue giant has a tongue three meters thick. The weight of this part of the body of an animal is comparable to the mass of an adult elephant.
The aquatic mammal from the order of cetaceans is a dolphin. An animal that is directly related to killer whales and whales, has many amazing qualities. For example, a dolphin has no external auditory holes, but it is able to pick up a sound wave using the inner ear.The animal has a universal ability to echolocation. He "sees" the world through sounds.
In addition, the dolphin has a special structure of the skin. From constant friction with water, it wears out quickly. But in the skin of the animal is hidden a powerful charge of constantly regenerating cells. In one day, the dolphin "molts" twenty-five times, as its body constantly renews the cellular composition of the skin surface.
Dolphins are very highly developed creatures. They are very friendly. In their pack they maintain a complex social hierarchy. Animals can “talk” among themselves with the help of signals of various complexity. Even diseases are related to the man of these mammals. There are cases when they develop cirrhosis of the liver, pneumonia, and even brain cancer.
Dolphin abilities are not yet fully understood. They inhabit almost the entire globe. But their population is endangered by humans and ... their own kindred. Killer whales are happy to hunt their fellows. These are the most dangerous sea animals. They live in large flocks, which no creature in the ocean can withstand.Orcas eat warm-blooded marine life: squid, fish, dolphins, seals. Sometimes they diversify their diet with sharks, walruses, narwhals and even birds. The speed of movement of these animals reaches 30 km / h. Given that the size of an adult individual is six meters in length, and its weight reaches one and a half tons, this is an excellent result. Killer whales are at the top of the food chain, so their habitat is extremely wide. They are found in all oceans, sometimes swim in closed seas.
These are the smartest invertebrate marine animals. There are about 300 species. Most cephalopods live at a depth of 30-80 meters. The whole body of an octopus is unusually ductile and flexible. Because of this, it can penetrate the narrowest gap in the reef or rock. The only solid part of the body of this animal is the beak. Cephalopods are peaceful and seek to avoid collision with their natural enemies - sharks, moray eels and other predators. Octopus lives no more than two years. Their fragility is due to the fact that immediately after mating, they cease to feed. However, they die not from hunger, but from the action of special glands that secrete fluid that kills an animal. Octopuses have outstanding intellectual abilities. They are endowed with long-term and short-term memory, which allows them to get out of the artificially created labyrinth and recognize their relatives after a certain time.
Jellyfish are among the most ancient inhabitants of the planet. They freely swim in the water column, can live at a depth of 10,000 meters. They have no brain, but there are eyes, thanks to which they very effectively hunt in the dark. Jellyfish are poisonous. Especially in this regard, the sea wasp was famous. This creature lives in the waters of Australia and Southeast Asia and is highly toxic, deadly to humans. All jellyfish poison contained in stinging cells. Shot once, this cell immediately dies.
In our country, too, there are these amazing animals. The Black Sea is home to two species of jellyfish - Cornerot and Aurelia. The first can quite burn the skin, and the second is dangerous to the mucous. Therefore, if you happened to touch a jellyfish, even a dead one, immediately rinse your hands. Otherwise, the animal's poison can burn your skin or eyes.
Sea animals, photos of which are present in this article, are such a variety of species and forms that they can not be described in a single publication. This quaint world should be studied carefully and attentively in order to fully appreciate its unusual beauty.
