It is reported that the development of Atmaca anti-ship missiles was started around 2005 by the Turkish state-owned company Roketsan, according to the requirements of the Turkish Navy. In 2009, the Department of Defense Industry (Savunma Sanayii Mustesarligi - SSM) of the Turkish Ministry of Defense issued Roketsan as the main contractor for the development of the rocket, and Aselsan as a subcontractor is developing an active radar homing head for the rocket.
The Atmaca rocket is subsonic and is equipped with a turbojet engine, as well as a solid-fuel starting accelerator.Externally and in dimensions, the Turkish rocket is similar to the Harpoon American anti-ship missile, and it is launched from a similar four-container "canister" launcher.
According to the materials of the Turkish press, the first sea test of the Atmaca RCC is scheduled for 2017, and the beginning of low-volume production is very optimistic for 2018.
