Central Procurement Directorate of the Ministry of National Defense of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in 2016-2017 received from Ukraine prototypes, equipment, vehicles, documentation and assembly kits for the modernization of the C-125M air defense missile system to the C-125ME1 (2) air defense system, the Blue Nile.
Deliveries were made by the state company Ukrspetsexport within the framework of the contract USE-20.2-25-К / КЕ-15.
In September 2017, it was reported that Radioniks LLC and the Luch State Space Design Bureau conducted the first missile launches from the upgraded C-125M anti-aircraft missile system on the territory of an unnamed foreign customer, which was Ethiopia.

The installation of new seeker provides for complete alteration of electronic equipment of the missile guidance station. The new radar was named FCR-125.
In the upgraded rocket 5V27D-M1 with a semi-active homing head (SAM 5V27D-M1) a combined method of targeting is implemented. In the initial part of the trajectory, inertial guidance is applied to the preemptive point with the radio correction from the FCR-125 of its position and speed when the target is maneuvered. On the final part of the trajectory, semi-active homing is used after the target is captured when the new radar FCR-125 is illuminated.
In turn, an active radar homing head is installed in the 5V27D-M2 rocket to equip medium-range missiles with an inertial guidance system and a data transmission line.Such a homing head is produced by the Radioniks company and ensures the detection and capture of an airborne MiG-29 target at a distance of at least 20 km, which significantly increases the accuracy of missile targeting, including for highly manoeuvrable targets. Instead of the radio command control, the combined guidance method is implemented. The rocket in the initial phase moves along the aeroballistic trajectory. Such a flight of the rocket significantly increases the distant border of the C-125M SAM system. The use of an active homing on the final section of the missile’s trajectory of the missile trajectory makes it possible to implement the “let-go-forget” principle. In the active seeker, an algorithm is implemented for countering intentional interference, which ensures a high probability (more than 0.9) of hitting the target.
FCR-125 radar is designed for autonomous detection, identification, tracking of flying objects (targets) and missile guidance. FCR-125 slotted antenna array provides an overview of the space in the sector in azimuth - ± 30 degrees; in elevation - from -2 to 45 degrees. The detection range of air targets (EOP = 5 square meters) - 130 km. FCR-125 provides simultaneous tracking of 1 target and targeting up to 2 527V rockets to it; simultaneous tracking up to 3 targets andtargeting up to 6 5V27D-M1 missiles on them; simultaneous tracking of up to 4 targets and targeting of up to 8 5V27D-M2 missiles on them.
