The Moscow Metrostroy has begun the construction of a ventilation tunnel, which is necessary for launching the left branch at the Likhobory depot. Let me remind you that with the launch of the northern section of the LDL, only the right branch was put into operation, since it was possible to find a place for the ventilation shaft right next to the tunnel. But for the construction of the left branch, it is necessary to build approach tunnels about 100 meters long.

Initially it was assumed that the ventilation of both branches in the depot would be carried out from this trunk, but for this it was necessary to pass 100 meters in one case, and even more in another in the quicksand. Therefore, to launch the right branch, a new trunk was made, and then they began to think what to do. Three options were considered:
1. Penetration by hand. This would require the use of a freeze on the entire length of the ventilation tunnel. Plus it is very unsafe.
2. The penetration of a conventional distilling plate with a diameter of 6 meters. This would require the construction of installation and demolition chambers of a large span in unstable soils (and most likely with freezing). As well as the length of the complex would be greater than the length of penetration.
3Driving a small shield of two tunnels (to provide the required cross-sectional area). This method avoids the construction of large chambers in unstable soils (you can do with a diameter of 8.5 meters) and the complete absence of frost. But it requires two tunnels.
After comparing all the options, the third one was adopted.
1. The trunk, covered with the help of high-speed rail, to a depth of 38 meters. There is just the boundary of limestone and quicksand.

6. And everything turned out to be simple. As you can see, in the diagram, two tunnels together represent an oval. TPMK will pass the lower tunnel, in its right chamber it will be deployed and it will return to the launch chamber. But in order for it to fit into the pivot camera, there it must come at a certain angle. Therefore, the lower tunnel and made on such a curve.

At the bottom, it was deployed (using a hinged joint in the design of the shield for flexibility and tunnels of small radius) and mounted in the starting position.
