Why the Pentagon fears Russian submarines and Caliber missiles

A few days ago in Washington, within the framework of the Atlantic Council, a military-political discussion was held on the theme “The next battle for the Atlantic”. Speaking at it, Admiral James Foggo, Commander-in-Chief of the US Navy in Europe and Africa, noted that Russia is quite aggressively expanding its presence in the Atlantic, while the technical equipment of the submarine and surface fleet of the Russian Navy is impressive.
Why does the Pentagon fear Russian submarines and “Caliber” class missiles of Russia, Foggo, Alliance, time, North Atlantic, Russian, sides, last, more, thousands, countries, exercises, such as Atlantic, military, council, commander in chief, Atlantic, admiral, Federation

Saying this, the American admiral especially emphasized that at the moment Russian submarines of the Kilo class (Russian submarines of the two projects 877 "Halibut" and 636 "Varshavyanka" in the NATO classification) are the most silent and deadly in the world, and the Caliber missile, Launched from the waters of any sea bordering on the Russian Federation, it can cover any European capital.
Speech at the meeting of the Atlantic Council was about the modern military confrontation of the North Atlantic Alliance and Russia in the Eastern Hemisphere in general and in the European Atlantic in particular.Discussing the modern geopolitical ambitions of Russia, they even remembered the Arctic expedition of the Russian academician Chilingarov, during which the brave Russian scientists installed a national tricolor at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean at the alleged point of the North Pole.
In addition, Foggo mentioned the fact that the Russian Ministry of Defense had recently restored seven former Soviet military bases in the Arctic Circle, which also characterizes Russia's regional intentions in a certain way, on the one hand. On the other hand, in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for the last ten years, there has been a total modernization and all branches of the military receive the latest military equipment. Thus, the Russian navy has recently received such combat vessels as: “Yuri Dolgoruky”, “Severodvinsk”, “St. Petersburg” or “Kronstadt”. And from the point of view of the Western forces, it would be wrong not to regard this as a request from the armed forces of the Russian Federation to return to their former power and world-wide respect.
I summarize everything said in the discussion, Commander-in-Chief Foggo drew attention to the fact that NATO forces must meet new challenges that come from the Russian Armed Forces,Therefore, it is so important now to conduct joint exercises of the armies of the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance, such as Trident Juncture 2018, so as not to lose, so to speak, the “feeling of an elbow”. According to the plans of Brussels, more than 40 thousand people from 30 countries, about 70 ships, 120 airplanes and 10 thousand ground vehicles will be involved in these maneuvers and most of them will be held in Norway. At the same time, it is clear that the above-mentioned exercises are only NATO mirror images of our most ambitious military exercises, Vostok-2018, although the latter, it should be noted, were nevertheless more representative.
